An authentic specimen of the legendary Peekskill meteorite, one of the most famous and historically significant meteorite falls ever documented in the United States. Officially classified as an H6 ordinary chondrite, Peekskill became world-famous after a meteorite crashed directly into a parked car in Peekskill, New York on October 9, 1992.
The event was witnessed across multiple states and captured on numerous video cameras during a Friday evening football game, making Peekskill one of the most extensively recorded meteorite falls in history. Moments after the brilliant fireball streaked across the eastern United States, the meteorite struck Michelle Knapp's parked Chevrolet Malibu, punching through the trunk and becoming one of the most iconic meteorite impact events ever documented.
Provenance: Ex: Forsburg collection.

- Fireball filmed simultaneously from multiple locations
- One of the best documented meteorite falls ever recorded
- Gained major worldwide media attention
- Surviving specimens are highly collectible worldwide
Depending on specimen type, Peekskill material may display: black fusion crust, brecciated light/dark structure, impact fractures, regmaglypts and atmospheric sculpting, metallic inclusions, and weathered impact surfaces.
Ideal For
- Observed fall collectors
- Historic meteorite collections
- American meteorite collectors
- Fusion-crusted meteorite enthusiasts
- Museum and educational displays
- Collectors of famous meteorite events
Very few meteorites possess the combination of: extensive eyewitness documentation, multiple fireball videos, direct vehicle impact history, strong historical provenance, and worldwide collector recognition.
A remarkable extraterrestrial artifact connected to one of the most iconic meteorite falls in modern history.
Measurements & Weight
- Weight: 0.55g
Condition
Please review all photos carefully for overall condition, fusion crust, fractures, weathering, and natural atmospheric features, as they are considered part of the description. Meteorites are natural extraterrestrial objects and commonly display structural variation, atmospheric entry textures, and impact-related fractures.
