An authentic antique pistol grip miner's candlestick holder, commonly known as a "Sticking Tommy," used throughout the hard rock mining districts of the American West during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Unlike more common straight-handle examples, this scarce pistol grip configuration features an ergonomically forged loop handle designed for easier carrying and positioning underground. The long forged spike allowed miners to drive the candlestick directly into timber supports or rock crevices while working deep underground before electric mine lighting existed.
This hand-forged wrought iron example displays exceptional period blacksmith craftsmanship with:
- Forged pistol grip handle
- Tapered mining spike
- Hanging hook
- Folded candle socket
- Beautiful aged iron patina and authentic mining-era wear
- Measures 8 x 3 x 2 inches
Candlesticks of this type were widely used in Western hard rock mining regions including California, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, and Montana during the Gold Rush and early industrial mining eras. Surviving authentic examples have become increasingly sought after by collectors of mining memorabilia, Western Americana, industrial artifacts, and early blacksmith-made tools.
The organic asymmetry and forged character clearly distinguish this piece from modern decorative reproductions, making it an outstanding museum-quality display artifact from America's mining frontier period. No maker's mark.
Perfect For:
- Western Americana collections
- Gold Rush mining memorabilia
- Antique blacksmith and forged iron collections
- Industrial and rustic décor
